Birds and beads

One of Jonas' teachers are moving to Sweden, she is from Venezuela and married to a Swede, now their dream of moving to Sweden one day has come true, and she will be leaving the school on Friday.

I started thinking that I wanted to make her a gift. I decided to crochet a Kay Bojesen bird for her. Jonas chose the colours, and made a matching peg board heart of hama beads (which I forgot to get a picture of before we wrapped it).

While making the bird, I came to think that after the summer, Jonas will "loose" all the teachers he has now, so it wasn't really fair only to make a bird for Miss Sabrina. So I decided to make one for all the teachers and teaching assistants, which makes a total of 6.

I ended up making them all over the weekend, which now results in me having a sore wrist! So I have to keep the crocheting to a minimum the next few days, which is so hard! Jonas also made a card for Miss Sabrina, and she will be getting it all tomorrow, since Jonas won't be there the rest of the week, because we will be in London:) which I'm really excited about, we gave my parents a trip to London for their 50th wedding anniversary in December.

So I will not be bringing my crochet hooks or yarn to London, it will be my time to rest my wrist:)

12 MOC June

Back in February I got a text from my brother with a picture he had seen on facebook. It was 4 people wearing crocheted shorts! I had seen it before, and I had laughed at it as well. My brother texted me the picture asking if I could make him a pair. I figured he was joking, and just responed "off course, if you pay the yarn".

We texted a bit over a couple of days, and it turned out he was serious! And I was in trouble, I have never made anything without a recipe, and I could find one online!

I decided to just give it a shut, but first I had another project to finish. It kept rotating in the back of my mind how to do it, I talked to a friend of mine, who is superb at sewing. She guided me to make a blanket, sew fabric on the back, cut the out and sew the together.... Luckily she agreed to help:)

All the trouble I had to go through to get them done... First I had not bought enough fabric, then the blanket wasn't big enough.... When we finally got them finished, the legs turned out to be too wide, so back to the sewing maching (which by the way isn't my strong side).
I took the picture with my phone and are now in the Ipad so you will have to make do with a screen dump from Instagram.
I finished them, now his challenge is to wear them:) a fun project, but not one I would do again:)

12 MOC May

It's time to show off another crochet project, this time my May project. I guess my blogging has become an monthly event, but I don't feel much like blogging at the time, but I'm not ready to give it up for good.

My May project I actually started almost 2 years ago, but in the beginning of May I decided it was time to get it finished.

Over the past 2 years I have crocheted flowers of scrap yarn... And new yarn. I'm so glad I finally finished my Arne & Carlos blanket. It measures about 150*190 cm, and made mostly from cotton yarn, and some glitter yarn.

The project I first intended to be my April project I didn't get finished in April, and thought it would be my May project, but it still has some alterations to be made... So maybe it will be my June project.

Have a Nice weekend everybody.

12 MOC April

I haven't blogged since my last 12 months of crochet post. It feels like we have been super busy the last month, both at home and putting in extra hours at work. So when I have had the time to blog, well I just haven't felt like it.

But here you have my project for this month, a small project, since what I first intended isn't finished yet.

So I made a set of potholders.

I also made a trivet from bottle caps, I had seen someone make them online and decided to give it a try. My parents were at a party and asked them to save the caps for them.

It was actually my back up project last month, in case I didn't finish the dress in time, so here is the picture of those I made last month. I really like all the options you have to play with colours.

Have a great weekend, it's a long weekend here since Friday is a holiday.

12 MOC March project

It's been a bit quiet around here, but I have been busy crocheting so I could finish my March project in 12 Months of Crochet. I didn't think I would finish, so I had another thing up my sleeve just in case I didn't finish this one. But a lot of crocheting, which resulted in a little sore wrist.

A while ago I saw this story somewhere in facebook. This woman crocheted her own wedding dress for only $30... not only couldn't I believe she could get yarn this cheap for a whole dress, and the result was amazing. All the fuzz about her dress made her write up a pattern, because she had just "winged it" on her daily bus commute over a period of 5 months!

Then I saw the pattern was for sale on Ravelry I had to make it. The yarn she had used I didn't know, and I couldn't find it in any Danish stores of webstores. I couldn't even find it online in Europe, and if you order from outside the European Union you have to stay below $13 before shipping otherwise you will have to pay extra taxes on imported goods, which are really expensive in Denmark. But I found a place where I could get 4 skeins for just $12... the shipping was almost $10 dollars... but still $22 for a dress is still really cheap if you ask me.

So here you have my result of this months 12 MOC.

Another gift has been given

Back in January I wrote a post where I showed some of the latest projects, but also left out some because they were going to be used as gifts for friends whom were expecting babies.

Yesterday we again got to go baby "watching". It was a friend of mine whom I have known since kindergarten who had a second child in the middle of February. On the 16th to be exact, which is a bit fun, because that was actually my due date 4 years ago, and her due date was on the 4th of March (the day after Jonas' birthday), so that is a bit fun thinking about.

When she had her daughter almost 2 years ago I made a baby blanket and a giraffe for her.
So I had to make a blanket for their little boy as well, and since they knew they were having a boy I could make it in bright boyish colours. I also made a dragon for him.

I'm quite happy with the result, and I hope Viktor will be happy with it too when he gets older. So far all he cares about is being fed, sleeping and getting changed... Well he doesn't really like getting his diaper changed, but that is something he has to get used to:)

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, the weather here is really spring weather, and I'm going to celebrate by going to a soccer match with a friend of mine this afternoon. The last time I went to see my team play was before we had Jonas, so I guess it's about time I will support them again:)

Jonas' birthday

Last Tuesday my baby turned 4... I can't believe how fast time flies. Both Frank and I had taken the day off, because Jonas' wanted to invite all his friends from Early Years to his birthday party. I guess because some of the other kids had celebrated their birthday by inviting everyone, and then of course so did he. We live so close to the school, so why not...
I e-mailed his teacher, and we made the arrangements, in one of the last e-mails I asked how many kids there were, and the answer was 27... I don't know what I expected, I see most of the kids everyday, I see all their "cubbys" everyday, I could just have counted them, but I was slightly surprised that there were 27 of them, and I got a bit nervous about it....
I had seen online someone made a "hungry caterpillar" cake out of cupcakes with green icing. I loved the idea for several reasons, one it would be easy to make, it would look fun and the kids prefer a cupcake to some fancy cake... at least Jonas and some of his friend does. So I made a "hungry caterpillar" cake, and all the kids knew the caterpillar, because they have read the book at school.

I decided to look online for some party ideas with the hungry caterpillar theme. I saw someone had decorated with balloons that looked like the caterpillar... it's funny that everytime you see things like that online it's always perfect... well I couldn't exactly get the balloons to do like I wanted them, so I will be the first to post pictures of failed hungry caterpillar decorations...
I asked Jonas if he wanted to play some games with his friends... he suggested "musical chairs"!!!! We don't have 27 chairs so that wasn't possible. We did a "Pin the nose on the caterpillar" game instead.
The party went SO great. The kids were very well behaved, and as soon as the got a bit loud the teachers told them to quiet down, and use their indoor voices. I would love to show you pictures from the party, but I don't want to post pictures of other peoples kids without their permission, so you will have to use your imagination.

Just before they left, the teachers told them "Tidy up time" and in a matter of minutes all the toys were back in boxes, on shelves etc. Jonas' room was almost more tidy than then they came.

In the afternoon we build the Lego he got for his birthday. We then again celebrated his birthday on Saturday with our Family, where he got even more Lego, so all of Sunday was spent building and playing with Lego again.

Have a nice weekend everyone!
