Finally, it's official!

Finally I'm able to blog about what has been on my mind for a couple of months. Which is probably also why I haven't been blogging much lately.

On Friday I handed in my resignation at work. I had a bit of mixed feelings about it. I have been there for 12 years, and I have loved it, but over the last year I have become more and more sick and tired of it... So I figured it was about time for me to move on, but move on to what? I had days where I just wanted to quit, but the reason in me stopped me from doing so before I had another job. 

Then just before my summer vacation our former head of stock came by, and we talked for a while. He mentioned he soon would need more employees at the new place he was at now, so if I was interested I should give him a call. I told him that he caugth me on a good day, and I wasn't going anywhere, mostly because my boss was standing next to me.

During my summer vacation it kept popping up in my mind, but I could decide what to do. When after my vacation I had a really bad day, and to top it off my boss made a comment about my mood, which just pissed me even more of. So I was talking to a girl from another department, and I mentioned that I should just go ahead a contact this guy, I just needed to get hold of him phone number. To which she replied "I have his number"... well it turned out he had just started his vacation, but as soon as he was back I contacted him.

It all dragged out a bit, but then last week he called and said he could give my a contract by Thursday so I could hand in my resignation on Friday. 

So by December 1st I'm starting working at Viking Life Saving Equipment, where I will be receiving goods. I will no longer have to work evenings or weekends, and will be off work between Christmas and New Year, not having to work on holidays... I can't wait. 

Though having to hand in my resignation was the hardest thing I had to do in while... it's been a great place to work, but by stopping now I can look back at 12 good years, but I'm afraid that if I had stayed the bad would outweigh the good things, and I would look back at 13 bad years, even if the first 11 years had been super. Though I have to say goodbye to a lot of great colleagues, but as the girl from the other department said, the ones you really are going to miss are the ones you are seeing outside work all ready, so that isn't really going to change,

Not the best picture, since it was a bit dark in the morning. But I had to get a picture of him before him going to Early Years. In the evening we went trick and treating with a few of the other kids from his daycare who lives close by. I was a really nice start to the weekend.

A new job = fewer hours = a very busy me...

I don't get it. I thought that my new job with fewer hours would leave me more time to blogging etc. So far that hasn't happened.

Last Monday I had the day off, because I had been working during the weekend. Jonas and I enjoyed ourselves, carving a pumpkin, visiting the playground etc. Well Jonas didn't do the carving, it is probably best not leaving him with a knife, but he coloured some small pumpkins while I carved the big one.

Last Tuesday I started the new job, but so far I haven't really started my new position, it's been a little crazy there the last 2 weeks... but hopefully soon I will start my new assignments. But I love have a schedule to follow, so when my plan says I'm off a 3.00 pm I can leave at 3.00 pm and not feel guilty about leaving it to someone else.

On Saturday Jonas and I had invited my parents and my brother to Legoland. None of them had been there since we were kids, I think they said the last time they were there was in 1988... so a lot had changed, to say the least. Jonas loved showing them around, as soon as he saw the train he told my mum that they had to go on it, my brother laughed, but a little to early, because he wanted him and my dad to come along as well. I actually think my brother secretly liked it.

The best thing about going with my parents and brother was that my brother and I got to try some of the wilder rides, and my parents would watch Jonas. I had also told Jonas that his uncle would take him on his "wild" rides, so my brother had to get into "the worm" which didn't leave much space for his legs.

We had a really fun day, and returned with a very tired boy.

On Sunday night Jonas started running a fever, and has been home sick Monday - Wednesday. Luckily enough Frank was also sick Monday and Tuesday, and my parents in law had him on Wednesday. Today he was back in daycare, which meant a very tired boy again today.

Hopefully I will get to update the blog a little more frequently now, but who knows, it seems like I said that a hundred times. Have a great weekend.

A Happy Day!

Today is a happy day... Frank got a called around noon, and on November 14th he is starting a new job:)

Last Tuesday someone called him in for a interview, it all went by really fast. He got the phone call in the afternoon, had the interview in the evening, got a contract which said he had a job by November 1st but only if the company got this big order from a windmill company. I decided not to blog about it this time, so that I wouldn't jinx it (I'm not superstitious, but I figured it was worth a try). Then Friday he got a call, the company didn't get the big order, so he couldn't offer him a job! Then this Tuesday evening another company called and asked if they could send his CV to windmill company, because they were bidding on a job. Yesterday the company from last week called, and said they were bidding on a job again, and if Frank was still interested, they would like to have him. Though none of the places would hear anything before sometime next week. Then today the company from last week called and said they had a job for him no matter what, they didn't want to loose him:)

So now the contract is signed, and we can relax for the next 1½ week, before Frank starts work. The best thing is that it was the job he wanted the most he got, so today is a really good day. So we celebrated by going out for lunch.

A great weekend!

Well our weekend started early... well none of us are working, so I guess it's weekend all the time right now. But yesterday Frank had a job interview 70 km from where we live, and really close to it is a big shopping center, so Jonas and I tagged along and spent a few hours at the shopping center while Frank went for his job interview. Afterwards we met up and had lunch, which was a really nice start to the weekend.

Yesterday afternoon Jonas had his swimming class, and he really enjoyed it yesterday, and we stayed in the water longer than we usually do. After dinner and putting Jonas to bed we watched the soccer match between Denmark and Cyprus, which Denmark won 4-1.

Today is going to be a relaxing day, and tomorrow Jonas and I are going to Legoland, if it's not raining too bad. Our neighbour had free tickets, and invited us along. If the tickets hadn't been free I wouldn't go, since I doubt Jonas will enjoy it too much yet, it will probably be more fun in a few years. I haven't been to Legoland since Wendy visited in 2004, but we had a lot of fun back then.

Please send good vibes our way during the next week or so... my husband didn't the get the last job he interviewed for, I guess you had all ready figured that since I hadn't mentioned anything about it.

Anyways he has 2 interviews the coming week! One on Monday, which is a second interview, though that one is really far away, so he will have an even longer drive than he does now. The other one is on Thursday and is right here in town, only 5-10 minutes drive from home, so that would be perfect. And to top it all of... a guy called today, he had seen my husbands CV online, and asked him to send him an application letter! Though that is a bit far away as well, but he can take the highway there so it won't take as long as the first one, which is only smaller roads, which means more traffic!

So I hope the coming week will land him a job, even if it's further away, I will be really happy if he gets a job... because let's face it by October 1st he doesn't have a job, and my maternity leave salary isn't really much.... we will manage, but it won't be much fun. So please keep your fingers crossed that he gets one of the jobs, preferably the one here in town:)

The job situation...

Well I spent the rest of Monday and all of Tuesday wondering what was going on at my work place... why did we all have to come in on Wednesday morning?

Late in the afternoon on Tuesday our HR manager called me to inform me about everything, so I actually ended up not going in on Wednesday. But the position I had before going on maternity leave... well by September that doesn't exist any more! Well not completely true, because there was 7 of them, and by September there is only 2, and they will be a bit different, so I'm no longer interested in it, which doesn't really matter because I guess I wasn't considered for that position! The HR department will be closed down in the store, and will only exist at the main office for the whole chain.

So quite a few changes will be made, but I haven't been fired... Yeah for maternity leave, they don't dare to fire you, because they know they will be sued by the union! So I have a job when I get back in March, but I don't know what I'll be doing, and right now I don't really care!

They have treated people very poorly in my opinion... the boss of the department store in our city said that they will find jobs for everyone affected... yeah right, that is why a girl who has worked there for 13 years was told to take a position that will only last for a year... she asked if she could think about, but that was her only choice, well that or being fired. Another girl was offered another position which was a demotion and she had to take a pay cut, she also asked if she could think about it, to which they had said "yeah for 30 seconds" and one of the guys was fired and not even being offered another position as promised.... I know a lot of those who got another position are now looking for another job, and I really don't want to go back, but hey it will be 8 months before I have to and a lot can have changed before then.

So I kept my job so far, which is more than my husband can say! On Thursday he got home, and had been let go because the company hadn't reached their budgets and were firing a few people, unfortunately one of them was my husband! Though he still have 3 months left, and there is quite a few job listings right now, so we are trying to stay positive, and hoping this way he will find something closer so home, so he won't have to commute 50 minutes each way... besides he was getting tired of the job he had, but it would have been nice to have something else before having been fired!

So this whole job situation kind of stinks right now... I try not to worry about my job yet, since so much can still happen, but keeping my fingers crossed that my husband will find a great job soon:)

What a great start...

This week is gonna be a good one, I can just feel it. And that is despite the fact I'm working all day Friday (my husbands birthday) and all day Saturday.

Starting a new job in a new department is the best I have done in a long time, going to work in the morning, without any hope of seeing the sun, and hearing on the radio that the snow is continuing for a while. But how can you not be happy seeing all the flowers at work? Especially this week we have a lot of hydrangeas (I don't know if that is the right name, it should be the Latin name), its the most beautiful colours. So I had to buy one. I think the hydrangea has been one of my favourite flowers since we went to the USA 3 years ago. While walking down Lombard Street (the crookedest street in the world) in San Francisco, there were tons of Hydrangeas, which just made my happy to look at. Especially after having been in bed for 24 hours due to food poisoning.

Well just to top the day off, when I got home we had received a wedding invitation from a friend off mine from my time as an Au pair in the DC area. She is from Finland, but moved to Vancouver where she met her soul mate. They are getting married in November in Punta Cana, The Dominican Republic, and I'm super excited, so guess what I have been doing since I got home... I've been surfing the web looking for cheap flights to Punta Cana...

A new start

Well I have started my new job today, I'm really excited about it, it has been lots of fun, and somehow it just makes me a bit happier being around flowers... didn't think I was the type that would enjoy that, yeah I like flowers, but I have never been able to get super excited about it. But I must admit its for sure more fun working with the flowers than all different small boxes off perfume or office applies. You don't need much for something to look nice so its quite fulfilling. At the same time I'm pretty much lost when someone asks me questions, thank God for phones, I have called a friend several times today, but every time I'm able to answer a question I get high:)
So I'm super excited for a new day tomorrow, where I hopefully will learn a bit more about paint and mixing different colours, I haven't dared to go near the machine today, too many new impressions will not do any good, at least not if I'm suppose to remember anything.

The end and the beginning...

Tomorrow will be my last day in my current job. I will miss most of my co-workers, but I will for sure not miss the work for now, I'm ready for change...
I'm not totally stopping in the department store, just changing to another department. I will now be in the department for gardening, tools and paint... I will be pretty much lost when I start, but I'm also super excited to try something new. I will get a really great and funny boss, the most amazing co-workers, okay that might actually come to a draw between them and my current co-workers...
It won't be starting the new job until February 1st so tomorrow afternoon will be the end of almost 2 years in the department for office applies, kitchenware and perfume, but also the beginning of my 2 week long holiday (very much needed).
Our department store won a community award in December, and for the money we won, they have hired one of most popular Danish stand up artist to perform for us for 45 minutes tomorrow morning before opening. That is so cool, I almost can't wait:D

Happy New Year

2009 have ended and 2010 have begun, and what a beginning, we had a blast of a party at our place (pictures will follow soon). I had been working long days the last few days, so I had feared that by midnight I would be too drunk to see the fireworks, but somehow the alcohol didn't hit that hard, and instead of getting tired, I got more energy. We celebrated New Year with a friend of mine from kindergarten and her husband, my husbands sister and 4 of her friends. The best thing was my friend and her husband sleeping over, and they helped clean up this morning, so then they left at noon, the dishes were done, the floor vacuumed, empty bottles removed etc. So all that was for left for us to do, was to relax and eat the leftovers of our fab dinner.

Looking back on 2009 its been a year with ups and downs. In April we got married, and had a wedding better than we could have imagined it. In the church my old conductor played a few hymns, and it was hard to keep the tears away while walking into the church hearing him play. Unfortunately I never got to properly thank him for it, just 2 weeks later he suddenly died from an infection, and we all (the old brass band) played at his funeral.

This summer we spent our vacation visiting a friend working and living in Singapore for a few years, and from there we went to Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia. It was the most amazing vacation, getting away from everything at home, I guess I at that time all ready was getting tired and stressed about work. It had not been one of our big wishes to go to Asia, but then the opportunity to visit a friend came up we took it, and I must say Asia is a lot more than I had imagined.

2009 was also the year I turned 30, and in August we arranged a theme party, the theme being the TV show "Survivor", we had split the guests into 2 teams a red and a blue team. They then had to compete in different small competitions as eating with chopsticks, diving for apples in a bucket, solving sodukos etc. It was such and success that it now will be an annual thing.

August was also the month that I got enough of my work, and I broke down crying, told them I couldn't handle it any longer. Most of them were really understanding, and I they tried finding something else for me, which I will be starting in February.

The last part of the year has work wise been some long months, but I can now begin to see the end of it. On the home front this year has been one of the best, only with a few bad things happening. So my wishes for 2010 it that it will be just as good, and it all ready looks to be a good one, we have at least 1 or 2 weddings we are attending in 2010. One of them is my brothers, he proposed on Christmas Eve. The other wedding are we still a bit unsure if we are attending, its a Finnish friend of mine from my time as an Au pair in Maryland, USA, who is getting married. She now lives in Canada and they are probably having the wedding in The Dominican Republic, and I would love to got, but I just have to figure out how we can arrange our vacation and the economic side of it as well. We have also planned a summer vacation to USA, so the look out for 2010 is good, and I how it can full fill my expectations.

I have a long week ahead of me...

Another weekend is coming to an end, and I feel like I haven't got any time to rest, but that might partly be my own fault. I went on a weekend trip with a brass band I used to play in growing up, we had a theme weekend, the theme being "memory lane". We were quite a few people, some that I haven't seen for 8-10 years, and we had the best time, playing some old tunes, talking about the good old days, and of course partying like the good old days, but the partying also means less sleep. So I'm off to bed a bit early today, and I can hardly bare thinking about the week to come, I have to work all next weekend, so the first possible day off will be next Monday or Tuesday, so 7 or 8 days before I'm able to sleep in...
I had a day off this week, and started my Christmas shopping, and by now I only need 2 more gifts before finishing, that's really a joy to think about, especially when I hear people complaining they haven't started yet.
Well I'm off to bed...

Weekend is here!

Yeah the weekend is finally here, and very much needed. I will be off work until Monday afternoon, and then I will be working all through the night. I'm actually looking forward to pulling an all-nighter. The last week I have felt hopelessly behind, but every time I try to get something done a bit faster I have been disturbed by co-workers, customers or something else. But Monday afternoon its going to be all Christmas mood for me and a colleague, we are going to stuff the store with all our Christmas items, and do all the things I don't have time to do in a normal workday.

I will spend the weekend thinking a bit Christmas at home as well, I will start decorating during the weekend, though I'm sure that my husband would prefer I kept it at work:) We are also going to support our local soccer team tomorrow, they are having their last home game this season tomorrow, and we have been invited to the lounge by some friends, which means free food and even better free beer, just one little tiny minus about it, I have an spinning class at 8.30 Sunday morning...
