I'm not too old after all...

Well it turns out I still have a chance at the Olympics, I'm not too old after all!

Since the weather isn't that amazing this week, and I'm still on vacation, well were are spending more time inside, and the TV is on with the Olympics. Today I watched skeet shooting (I didn't even know that was a part of the Olympics), and apparently we had a Dane in the finals! And he won a silver medal, which makes it the first Danish medal in the 2012 Olympics.

But when I saw his contestants, well that was then I thought I might still have a chance at the Olympics. Well the Gold went to Vincent Hancock from the USA, and he is only 23, the Danish guy Anders Colding is 28. But they had a shootout for the bronze medal which was between Valeriy Shomin from Russia and Nasser Al-Attiya from Qatar. Both these men are 41 years old. I honestly thought Valeriy Shomin was older, the looked older on the field than in the photo I found of him.

Besides the speakers were talking about how a skeet shooter could compete on a high level well into their 40s and even in their 50s. So there you have it, I might still have a chance at the Olympics, now I just have to learn to skeet shoot, and honestly how hard can that be? You aim and you fire... piece of cake... so look out for me in 2016 in Brazil:)

Caught up in the Olympics...

I wasn't really all that excited about the Olympics, but it has only just started and all ready I have been caught up in several games. I was looking forward to the men's handball games, since this is probably where Denmark will have a chance in winning a medal, there and in one of the rowing competitions.

Though today I have watched cycling road race, ping-pong, rowing, rifle shooting, women's handball and swimming... why, well there isn't much else on TV worth watching, but somehow I get caught up in the games. Especially swimming, since a heat isn't all that long, there have been Danes competing, one girl is even in the Final tomorrow. I can't help think about when I took swimming lessons back when I was 8 or 9 years old, I did compete once, and I actually won first place (I should mention that I was the only one in my age group)... when my mind wanders, and what if I had stuck to it... could I have been in London competing now? Well probably not, since I just heard them say that some of the swimmers were in their last Olympics, and they were only 26 and 27 years old... but I could have been great in Sydney in 2000 or Athens in 2004... probably not, but it's fun to think about.

I do have to mention that the riffle shooting, I did only watch since they interrupted the cycling in order to show the women's final. Besides did you know that in China it's harder qualifying for the Olympics in riffle shooting than it is winning the Olympics... that only makes the Danish girls look even worse, she was out after the first round:)

So I guess the next week of my vacation I might be watching the Olympics... might as well as it seems like the weather is taking a turn to the worse again.

Summer is here:)

Well summer has arrived. So far the whole week it has been bright and sunny, and I have started to tan a little.

On Monday my parents came to visit and we went to the zoo, of course we didn't bring a camera, but here is a picture of Jonas and the goats from when we went with the daycare in the middle of June (it was raining therefore the rain suit). We had fun in the zoo and afterwards we went to a fish restaurant for lunch.

Yesterday and today we have been relaxing, enjoying the nice weather. Though today it has been a bit too hot (I know I shouldn't be complaining when the sun is finally shining). Tomorrow we are visiting my parents in law in their summerhouse on a little island (fanoe) just outside Esbjerg.

Otherwise we don't have any big plans for the rest of the week, though by Saturday it looks like the summer is gone again, so I will enjoy the summer to the fullest the next few days.

Legoland

Yesterday we went to Legoland, usually Saturday is a great day to go, since all the tourists are leaving the summerhouses (they rent from Saturday to Saturday), so usually there are not so many people on Saturdays... well that yesterday wasn't a usual Saturday, since it is in the middle of summer vacations, and I guess lots of people have rented for 2 weeks. There were tons of people, and fairly long lines to try the rides. But the rides that Jonas like wasn't too bad, I'm just happy we didn't go on the big popular new rides...

On the little planes, the line was pretty long, but worth the wait:)
Jonas really enjoyed the rides, though not the waiting in line. He did get to try a few different rides, and we had lots of fun.
On the monorail, we could almost hop straight on, though Jonas didn't want to sit down!

I was happy that we packed lunch, because the prices in Legoland is crazy. The ticket to get in is DKK 299,- (almost $50), luckily we had a 2 for 1 coupon and Jonas was free since he is under 3 years. At one point I was considering buying a ice cream, the prices were really high and the line was really long... so I did without. I can recommend going to Legoland, but it's a good idea to pack a lunch, there are lots of places where you can sit and enjoy your lunch, though with all the people yesterday it wasn't easy to find a free table... at least not in the sun.

A trip to Legoland was a great start to my vacation, and the best thing is that over the next week it looks like the sun will be shining, which will be a good change to the last couple of weeks with rain, rain and more rain.

Hope you all had a great weekend:)

Nearly there...

It's almost time for me to have another vacation... well one more day of work left, and I will be off for 2 whole weeks:) I can't wait! We don't have any big plans, except Legoland and the zoo.

Frank and Jonas started their vacation last Friday, so it has been kind of boring going to work this whole week. But then after my first week off Frank will have to go back to work, so then I will be able to enjoy not having to get ready in the morning:)

I have almost started counting the hours:) Now all I need is the weather to turn a bit better:) Have a great weekend everyone:)

Cooking with Connie

So I figured I would do my own series of post about cooking, well it will probably be more baking, but hey "Baking with Connie" doesn't have that good ring to it;)

It's not like I'm going to post this every Sunday, but whenever I try a new interesting recipe or maybe if I do one of the good old recipes, that is my go-to recipes. Today it is one of my go-to recipes, I'm going to make a banana cake... it is one of the cakes that never fails, and Jonas haven't been able to eat all the bananas that I bought, so instead of throwing them out I baked a cake.

Here you have the recipe, it's super easy, and I really doubt you can go wrong with it:)
3 eggs
170 grams of sugar
2 teaspoons of vanilla sugar
125 grams of flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
100 grams of melted and cooled butter
1 mashed banana (I used 2, but it's not necessary).
100 grams of dark chocolate (I only had milk chocolate, so I used that instead).

Mix the eggs, sugar and vanilla sugar together so it's light. Mix flour, baking powder and butter in little by little. Then gently mix in the mashed banana.
Pour it into a tin and bake for about 55 minutes at 175 degrees Celsius.
Let the cake cool, melt the chocolate and decorate the cake with chocolate.

Yeah in Denmark we use the metric system, but here is a link to a place that will do the calculations into cups etc.

There you have it, enjoy:)

Summer reading

Over the last month or so I have been able to fit in a bit of reading. I love to read books, though sometimes it can go ages between me finishing a book, and suddenly I get caught up in a book and I can't put it down. Within the last month and a half I have almost finished 3 books (still have a few chapters left of the 3rd one).

First I read a book which translated into English would be called something like "Dad, I'm alive" its written by a girl and her dad, and describes everything that happened in Norway on July 20th 2011 and the months after. Her dad was on his way to Oslo when the bomb went of in the center, shortly after his daughter calls him and tells him someone is shooting wildly on this little island where she is on a political summer camp. At first he doesn't believe her, and says it's probably just some fireworks... but there was no such things as fireworks, there was a maniac on the island. I had a really hard time putting down the book, I remember watching it all on the news, but hearing her story made it so much more real.

The second book was "The Help", which I'm sure a lot of you have heard about. It's a story about the black women in Mississippi during the 1960's. I can't believe how some of these women have been treated by the white ladies, and then in between there are some really nice white women, but they aren't telling their friends how they have helped maids out, because they are afraid of being judged. I found the book interesting, I don't know why, probably because Denmark hasn't had a lot of Race problems... at least nothing close to what went on in the Southern USA.

The third book I'm reading is Tori Spellings "sTORItelling". I haven't finished it yet, but I find it pretty amusing, she really has a great sense of humour. I really has seen a whole other side of her, I honestly thought she was "daddy's little rich girl", but I guess her life hasn't always been easy... well not like she starved or anything, but emotionally it can't always have been easy being Aaron Spellings daughter.

Looking at the last 3 books I've read I guess you can't say that I go for just one kind of books, but I do like to read biographies, I also enjoy chick lit books, and then if I have to name my favourite author it will be John Grisham, and well his books doesn't really fall under chick lit... It all depends of my mood when starting a book.

And can you believe that I'm actually blogging again? That makes it twice in 3 days:)

Can I get an Energy boost?

Here I thought I would get better at blogging, but it just seems like lately I have had a lack of energy so when   it comes to blogging I just didn't!

Though I'm back... but don't expect too much, because I haven't found a place to buy an energy boost yet... though 8 more days of working and I will have 2 weeks off, that might help a bit:) Frank is starting his vacation a week before me, since the daycare is closed from next week and then 2 weeks forward. So Frank and Jonas will start their vacation on Friday, and I will have to wait another week.

We don't have any big plans for our vacation, except for maybe a trip to Legoland (I got a coupon where we get 2 tickets for the price of 1, and Jonas is free), maybe a trip to this mini-zoo, we went there with the daycare 3 weeks ago and Jonas loved it, they have a petting zoo and Jonas was actually hugging the goats when I told him to say goodbye to them:) Otherwise we will be relaxing, and hopefully have lots of sun so we can be outside.

Hope you are all doing well, if you are still reading after weeks of not posting!
