Birds and beads

One of Jonas' teachers are moving to Sweden, she is from Venezuela and married to a Swede, now their dream of moving to Sweden one day has come true, and she will be leaving the school on Friday.

I started thinking that I wanted to make her a gift. I decided to crochet a Kay Bojesen bird for her. Jonas chose the colours, and made a matching peg board heart of hama beads (which I forgot to get a picture of before we wrapped it).

While making the bird, I came to think that after the summer, Jonas will "loose" all the teachers he has now, so it wasn't really fair only to make a bird for Miss Sabrina. So I decided to make one for all the teachers and teaching assistants, which makes a total of 6.

I ended up making them all over the weekend, which now results in me having a sore wrist! So I have to keep the crocheting to a minimum the next few days, which is so hard! Jonas also made a card for Miss Sabrina, and she will be getting it all tomorrow, since Jonas won't be there the rest of the week, because we will be in London:) which I'm really excited about, we gave my parents a trip to London for their 50th wedding anniversary in December.

So I will not be bringing my crochet hooks or yarn to London, it will be my time to rest my wrist:)

12 MOC June

Back in February I got a text from my brother with a picture he had seen on facebook. It was 4 people wearing crocheted shorts! I had seen it before, and I had laughed at it as well. My brother texted me the picture asking if I could make him a pair. I figured he was joking, and just responed "off course, if you pay the yarn".

We texted a bit over a couple of days, and it turned out he was serious! And I was in trouble, I have never made anything without a recipe, and I could find one online!

I decided to just give it a shut, but first I had another project to finish. It kept rotating in the back of my mind how to do it, I talked to a friend of mine, who is superb at sewing. She guided me to make a blanket, sew fabric on the back, cut the out and sew the together.... Luckily she agreed to help:)

All the trouble I had to go through to get them done... First I had not bought enough fabric, then the blanket wasn't big enough.... When we finally got them finished, the legs turned out to be too wide, so back to the sewing maching (which by the way isn't my strong side).
I took the picture with my phone and are now in the Ipad so you will have to make do with a screen dump from Instagram.
I finished them, now his challenge is to wear them:) a fun project, but not one I would do again:)

12 MOC May

It's time to show off another crochet project, this time my May project. I guess my blogging has become an monthly event, but I don't feel much like blogging at the time, but I'm not ready to give it up for good.

My May project I actually started almost 2 years ago, but in the beginning of May I decided it was time to get it finished.

Over the past 2 years I have crocheted flowers of scrap yarn... And new yarn. I'm so glad I finally finished my Arne & Carlos blanket. It measures about 150*190 cm, and made mostly from cotton yarn, and some glitter yarn.

The project I first intended to be my April project I didn't get finished in April, and thought it would be my May project, but it still has some alterations to be made... So maybe it will be my June project.

Have a Nice weekend everybody.

12 MOC April

I haven't blogged since my last 12 months of crochet post. It feels like we have been super busy the last month, both at home and putting in extra hours at work. So when I have had the time to blog, well I just haven't felt like it.

But here you have my project for this month, a small project, since what I first intended isn't finished yet.

So I made a set of potholders.

I also made a trivet from bottle caps, I had seen someone make them online and decided to give it a try. My parents were at a party and asked them to save the caps for them.

It was actually my back up project last month, in case I didn't finish the dress in time, so here is the picture of those I made last month. I really like all the options you have to play with colours.

Have a great weekend, it's a long weekend here since Friday is a holiday.

12 MOC March project

It's been a bit quiet around here, but I have been busy crocheting so I could finish my March project in 12 Months of Crochet. I didn't think I would finish, so I had another thing up my sleeve just in case I didn't finish this one. But a lot of crocheting, which resulted in a little sore wrist.

A while ago I saw this story somewhere in facebook. This woman crocheted her own wedding dress for only $30... not only couldn't I believe she could get yarn this cheap for a whole dress, and the result was amazing. All the fuzz about her dress made her write up a pattern, because she had just "winged it" on her daily bus commute over a period of 5 months!

Then I saw the pattern was for sale on Ravelry I had to make it. The yarn she had used I didn't know, and I couldn't find it in any Danish stores of webstores. I couldn't even find it online in Europe, and if you order from outside the European Union you have to stay below $13 before shipping otherwise you will have to pay extra taxes on imported goods, which are really expensive in Denmark. But I found a place where I could get 4 skeins for just $12... the shipping was almost $10 dollars... but still $22 for a dress is still really cheap if you ask me.

So here you have my result of this months 12 MOC.

Another gift has been given

Back in January I wrote a post where I showed some of the latest projects, but also left out some because they were going to be used as gifts for friends whom were expecting babies.

Yesterday we again got to go baby "watching". It was a friend of mine whom I have known since kindergarten who had a second child in the middle of February. On the 16th to be exact, which is a bit fun, because that was actually my due date 4 years ago, and her due date was on the 4th of March (the day after Jonas' birthday), so that is a bit fun thinking about.

When she had her daughter almost 2 years ago I made a baby blanket and a giraffe for her.
So I had to make a blanket for their little boy as well, and since they knew they were having a boy I could make it in bright boyish colours. I also made a dragon for him.

I'm quite happy with the result, and I hope Viktor will be happy with it too when he gets older. So far all he cares about is being fed, sleeping and getting changed... Well he doesn't really like getting his diaper changed, but that is something he has to get used to:)

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, the weather here is really spring weather, and I'm going to celebrate by going to a soccer match with a friend of mine this afternoon. The last time I went to see my team play was before we had Jonas, so I guess it's about time I will support them again:)

Jonas' birthday

Last Tuesday my baby turned 4... I can't believe how fast time flies. Both Frank and I had taken the day off, because Jonas' wanted to invite all his friends from Early Years to his birthday party. I guess because some of the other kids had celebrated their birthday by inviting everyone, and then of course so did he. We live so close to the school, so why not...
I e-mailed his teacher, and we made the arrangements, in one of the last e-mails I asked how many kids there were, and the answer was 27... I don't know what I expected, I see most of the kids everyday, I see all their "cubbys" everyday, I could just have counted them, but I was slightly surprised that there were 27 of them, and I got a bit nervous about it....
I had seen online someone made a "hungry caterpillar" cake out of cupcakes with green icing. I loved the idea for several reasons, one it would be easy to make, it would look fun and the kids prefer a cupcake to some fancy cake... at least Jonas and some of his friend does. So I made a "hungry caterpillar" cake, and all the kids knew the caterpillar, because they have read the book at school.

I decided to look online for some party ideas with the hungry caterpillar theme. I saw someone had decorated with balloons that looked like the caterpillar... it's funny that everytime you see things like that online it's always perfect... well I couldn't exactly get the balloons to do like I wanted them, so I will be the first to post pictures of failed hungry caterpillar decorations...
I asked Jonas if he wanted to play some games with his friends... he suggested "musical chairs"!!!! We don't have 27 chairs so that wasn't possible. We did a "Pin the nose on the caterpillar" game instead.
The party went SO great. The kids were very well behaved, and as soon as the got a bit loud the teachers told them to quiet down, and use their indoor voices. I would love to show you pictures from the party, but I don't want to post pictures of other peoples kids without their permission, so you will have to use your imagination.

Just before they left, the teachers told them "Tidy up time" and in a matter of minutes all the toys were back in boxes, on shelves etc. Jonas' room was almost more tidy than then they came.

In the afternoon we build the Lego he got for his birthday. We then again celebrated his birthday on Saturday with our Family, where he got even more Lego, so all of Sunday was spent building and playing with Lego again.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner review

For about a week now I have been testing Dove Oxygen Moisture shampoo and conditioner. I'm testing it through buzzador, where I have also tested other products.

This Dove shampoo promises to give the hair more volume and moisturise the hair without weighing it down.

After using it for a week I'm kind of indifferent to what I think about it. It's not bad, I can't say anything I dislike about it. But I'm not convinced that it is a shampoo I will buy again.

I remember the "old" Dove shampoo, which I didn't like, but by the time I got the package I was sure this was better, just by looking at it. I love the "bottles", they look nice, but they will also be easy getting everything out of due to the top down bottles.

As I wrote I'm not sure I will buy it again. I guess it will all depend on the price. In our household we don't have any preferences to our shampoo, and then again we do. I don't like the discount ones, because they have too much silicone in them. I once tried a really expensive one, which I ended up throwing out, because I didn't feel my hair got clean. So I guess we do have some preferences, but usually we choose between 4-5 well known brands that can be bought in most supermarkets. The choice usually comes down to which are the cheapest when we are running low on shampoo.

So overall I'm not super excited about the shampoo, but I'm not disliking it either. It's just OK.

A few gifts

It's been a week of birthday celebrations, and will do a post on that another day.

Today we are visiting some friends that had a baby 3 weeks ago. She was in the hospital for a week because she had a c-section, and after she got back home we haven't been able to find a day that would fit into everyones plans until today.

I have crocheted a little gift and then we bought some clothes as well.

I made the cow back in December, I had to make something gender neutral since they did not want to know what they were getting. Then this week I decided to make a cuddle cloth for the baby as well. That was an really easy project, and since we now know they had a girl I could put some colour on it.

We are looking forward to meeting the little girl this afternoon. Until when I hope to get a bit a rest on the couch while Jonas play with all the lego he got for his birthday.

Party planning

I can't believe that on Tuesday my little baby will be turning 4.... Yes four!

When some of the other kids had their birthdays the kindergarten had been invited for their birthday, so of course Jonas should have them over too... So I e-mailed his teacher and invited them. In one of the last e-mails I asked how many would come, the answer 27 kids and 3 teachers.... 27! But now they had been invited and I couldn't take it back. I was just really happy that we had decided to do it on his birthday and take the day off work, instead of a Saturday which we also had discussed... Because this way they come with 3 teachers.

So tonight I have been doing the party favours for all the kids. Instead of giving them a lot of sugar I have made a small "hungry caterpillar" activity book, which I found online, a pencil, an eraser, some stickers, a balloon and a lollipop.

The theme for his birthday will be "the very hungry caterpillar", mainly because I saw a really cool cake online, where the caterpillar was made of cupcakes with green icing.

Now I'll have to wrap his presents and relax for the rest of the night, and tomorrow I will be baking... And maybe panicking....

12 MOC February

In the beginning of February I showed you a picture om my February project of 12 months of crochet... I have finished it a few weeks ago, but never got around to blog about it.

I made a pair of wristlets. It was an easy project, I changed the recipe a bit, since I wanted to use the yarn I had in my stash, which was a lot thinner than what the recipe prescribed.

I'm not sure about the buttons, I think they need to be wooden instead, but until I get around to buying that these homemade buttons will have to do.

Yeah I got around to posting in February, can you believe March will be here in a few days? And my baby will be turning 4 in just 5 days... We have been having a countdown the last couple of days.

Have a great weekend, when you get to it:)

Things for the kitchen...

As promised I would do a post this weekend of what I had been crocheting lately.
I have made 2 set of potholders, not really that I needed any, but I wanted to try and make them. My mum has a booth at a market 4-5 times a year, and I thought maybe she could see if she could sell them. In November I had made some small elfs which she sold easily, I thought I would have elfs all over the place afterwards, but I didn't even have a set left for myself.
I also made 2 kitchen towels, which I can't decide if I will give my mum to sell or if I should keep them myself, because I really like them... On the one that is folded the colours are switched around.
So that is what I have been up to lately.

12 MOC February

I know, I know, again a long pause from blogging, I have all the intentions to blog a couple of times a week, but since I have found an app for my Ipad that makes it easier blogging, well then I have to turn on my computer, and I have to admit after getting my Ipad I hardly ever use the computer anymore... so if anyone has any good suggestions for app for blogging let me know, I think I have tried every free app and haven't found any I like yet.

I have been crocheting a bit, and I hope I will get around to taking some pictures this weekend so I can show you what I have been up to. I will leave you a little picture of my February project for the 12 Month of Crochet challenge. I will not tell you what it is, that you will have to guess or wait until I have finished the project.

I hope you are all still doing well. How do you blog? On the computer, Ipad, phone or something different?

A productive Sunday

So over the last couple of weeks I have finished a few projects, but since some of them are going to be given away, well then I can't show you them yet.

I have one project that I can show you. I made a couple of baskets, a breadbasket and a smaller basket. They are made from mason string. A while ago, almost a year ago I think, I saw someone whom had made baskets from mason string, but it wasn't until now that I got around to try it too.

I bought some orange mason string, and the 2 rolls made the 2 baskets, I just have a little left.

This morning I was working from 7.00 am till noon. I know I have said my new job didn't require me working weekends. Though we are really busy right now, and we were asked if anyone could help out. So I volunteered to work today. The best part is that I can always say now if I have other plans, and I get paid overtime and get hours saved, so I can take time of another day. Besides 5 hours of working doesn't seem too bad, so I figured that I might as well.

After getting home I have been packing up all our CD's, does any of you ever use a CD any longer? Well we don't, so they all got packed in a box, and now I can use the shelves for my yarn.

So now I have my yarn organised, which is both good and bad. I thought I had a lot yarn, but I didn't think I had that much. Which also let my husband to say that there was no reason for my to buy more yarn anytime soon. But what does he know? There is always a reason to buy yarn:)

What I did most of December

In December I did quite a bit of crocheting, but it was a lot of the same. I made my first one in December 2013, and lot of people has seen them, and would like some as well. It's can covers/cozies.

I just finished another 3 pairs, which add up to 20 pairs from the beginning of December until now. I found the recipe here. I also made one of the Christmas ones, which you can see here. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it before giving it to my sister in laws boyfriend for Christmas. Well actually it was Santa who gave it to him. Since we had Jonas Santa comes to visit every Christmas, and he does not only bring a gift for Jonas, but one for everyone here. It's just a small gift, but it's quite fun seeing Jonas helping Santa handing out presents.

Now I think I will take a break from making these, and make something else. I'm dreaming of one day making a crocodile stitch scarf, and this Tuesday I attended a crochet class/get together at a yarn shop not too far away, and I learned to do the crocodile stitch, but I need to practice a bit more, before starting a scarf project.

Above it my try from Tuesday of the crocodile stitch, it really teased me, and there is some faults in it, but I think I might be able to make it the right way now, but it will take a few more tries.

Have wonderful weekend when it arrives:)

Happy New Year and 12 MOC

I hope you all have had a fantastic start to 2015, we did, but I don't have any pictures to show for it. For the first time in over 12 years I have had time off from work between Christmas and New Year. After I started my new job on December 1st I no longer work in the evenings or during the weekends.... and of course no rules without exceptions, so I was working the weekend before Christmas because we were taking inventory. But when I left work on Sunday the 21st at noon I went on Christmas vacation, and it lasted until this morning.... can you believe it, 14 days without working!

We spent Christmas at home, as we have the done the last 5 years. My parents came on the 23rd and the rest of our family came and celebrated with us on the 24th. Otherwise it has been a lot of family time, and one day I really needed some me time and had to go for a walk, because Jonas was driving me crazy with all his questions non-stop, a bit of fresh air helped.

All the time of also left time for being creative, and I started my 12 Month of Crochet project for January. Is it cheating to start in December? Well I don't care, I am a rebel like that:)

So just before bedtime last night I finished the last of the pillows for our couch, I was inspired by a girl on instagram for this last one.

I will give you a picture of 2 of the others that I also made, and Jonas, he wouldn't let me take a picture without him in it.

One is made with bubble stitch, a recipe I found on ravelry, and the other is corner to corner stitch, which I found a tutorial for on YouTube.

Have a good one:)
