Supply and Demand

I don't remember the first time I heard about Supply and Demand, but it has probably been in one of the first classes in business school. Since then I have heard about it several times, first in business school, later when studying Marketing Economy, and in my job in retail.

The last time I heard about it was from a midwife... she was telling about breastfeeding, and telling us that the more milk the baby demanded, the more our bodies would supply... I must say I'm not fully convinced, not after having spent 2 or 3 nights breastfeeding more or less non stop from 10 pm till 3 am...

So last night we caved in... we made Jonas a bottle from formula (don't tell the midwives!), and no wonder I have been breastfeeding for 5 hours every night, he was hungry, he ate a whole bottle of 100 ml. He fell asleep at 10.15 pm and slept till 2.30 am, where I could change his diaper, breastfeed him and put him back to sleep in just 20 minutes! Which was repeated at 5.30 am before sleeping till 8.30 am. So this morning I actually woke up not feeling tired! I don't even think I need a nap during the day today... So hurrah for formula, which now will be a routine every night.

I'm not giving up breastfeeding just yet though, because that seems to be an excellent diet... and let's face it, I still have a bit of baby weight to loose. In a week though I have lost 4 kg, never done that in such a short time, and especially not while eating cake and candy! So breastfeeding is now my all time favourite diet, so I'm sticking with it for some time still:)

The combination of breastfeeding and formula has left me with extra energy, so hopefully I will also start getting better at reading your blogs, I have read some, but I hope this mean that I will have energy to start commenting as well!

  1. i've heard a lot of different reports on breastfeeding vs. formula. some say breastfeeding is WAY better and some say formula is WAY better. so i think that a combo is just fine, whatever works best for you and your little guy. it must feel amazing to have all that energy again. good thing too, cause i'm guessing you're gonna need it as he grows! :)
