A few finished projects

So last week during my vacation I had a few projects. I have now finished some of them, and here are some pictures to show for it.

I used my new sewing machine and made a pair of pants for Jonas. I didn't get a picture of him in them, but I'm quite satisfied with the result. They are a bit long, but since there is elastic in the legs it doesn't really matter. It got me hooked, and I ordered more fabric, for another pair of pants for Jonas, which will be with pockets, he was missing his pockets. And I also got some fabric for a dress/tunic for myself. Though at the moment there isn't enough hours in the day to get the sewing machine out due to other projects.

I also finished my scarf, it was really easy to make, and I am now working on one for my mum as well. I guess she need something for babysitting Jonas this next week. On Thursday he got sick with chickenpox, on Friday I was working late, which also meant I didn't have to go into work as early as usual, and Frank is usually off early on Fridays, so he went home a bit earlier than usual, and the few hours from me leaving to him getting home our sweet neighbour babysat for us. She was also hoping that her daughter would catch the chickenpox. In Denmark you don't get a vaccination for the chickenpox, but once you had it you are immune, and the earlier you get it the easier it will be getting over it.

I need to get back to the other scarf. My mum will come here on Monday afternoon and stay till Friday, and then hopefully he will be better and be ready to go to daycare next week.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Cooking with Connie

Remember I used to have a series of post where I cooked/baked something, well it's been a while since I last did one of those posts, but here you have one again.

I made macaroons, I was really excited to make them, and I decided to make strawberry macaroons....

Okay I cheated, and didn't really make them from scratch, I bought one of those bake mixes. Usually they are pretty good, especially the brownie one... but this one not so much.
Sorry for the bad cell phone pictures!

It was a bit dull, and the strawberry flavour was a bit artificial. I actually ended up throwing some of them away, and if you know me, I never throw away cake. I hope that the chocolate ones are better, but they were sold out the day I bought the cake mix.

Okay I promise to do a real cooking with Connie soon.

Christmas gifts from Jonas

I promised in another post that I would take pictures of the gifts Jonas made for us in daycare, so here we go.

2 paintings, first they had put masking tape on the canvas, and then let the kids paint their own pictures. I love the look the masking tape gave the paintings.
My favourite gift was this little plaster cast of his hand. I just love how you can see all the details of his nails, the little lines in his hand etc. When we unwrapped it Jonas first said "it's Eske's hand" Eske is one of the other boys in his daycare, his best friend, but it wasn't his hand we had got:)
And last we also got 2 coasters for hot pots and pans. When we opened them Jonas carefully touched them and looked at his finger to see if the paint had come of. I guess they had been told not to touch it until it was dry.
I love how he made all these gifts for us, they were the best Christmas gifts we got this year.

DIY projects

So I have this week off from work, and is being spent with a mix of chores and relaxing DIY projects, well mostly fun, of the chores I so far have only emptied the dishwasher and folded some laundry Frank did over the weekend, but maybe I will get around to doing more chores, or maybe not.

On Monday I painted the kitchen, nothing fancy, just another coat of white, but it was needed, we had Jonas' wall art that needed to be covered, and we had some holes in the wall from moving things around. Jonas was in daycare, and it actually went pretty fast getting the paint job done. Yesterday Jonas was home and we relaxed, made salt dough, which I guess he can paint tomorrow, because I send him to daycare again today, because I have a few projects in the making.

Here are a few of the things I'm working on.

For Christmas I got a sewing machine, nothing fancy just a cheap one from IKEA, but nonetheless a sewing machine. But so far I haven't even unwrapped it, but today is going to be the day. This morning after grocery shopping I went to buy fabric, and I will try to make a pair of pants for Jonas. Depending on how it goes you may or may not see the result on here:)
Then I saw people online making this broomstick stitch lace scarfs, and I had to give it a try. There is the best tutorial on YouTube. I watched it once, pausing along the way to I could catch up, and that was all I needed, super easy.
Here is the YouTube video if anyone should be interested.
The last if my eternity project, I'm doing all these little patches which eventually should become a very colourful blanket. Though that is a project that I will make a few and then leave for while to make something else.
So that is what some of my week off will be spent doing. Maybe I should get the some chores done as well, but then again there is always tomorrow.

Concentration

Just a short little post to wish you have happy weekend.

At the moment Jonas is quite happy making peg boards, and the prescribes for quite a lot of concentration.

I'm not sure if the Hama beads and peg boards is only a Danish thing, or if it is something kids do all around the world. The company HAMA is Danish, but I figure it is also use other places since on the website you can choose another language.

Jonas is only using the maxi beads so far, I'm not sure he will be able to control the smaller ones yet, but with all the practice he gets with the maxi beads I bet he will move on to the midi beads at some point too. All his finished peg boards he happily gives away to people we are visiting, he is quite proud of them.

He is quite creative, and I have to take pictures of the things he made for us for Christmas, that will be another post.

Have a great weekend.

Selfie

The word "selfie" has entered the Danish language during 2013, every now and again American words are taken into our everyday language. I guess the word selfie has been around probably longer, especially in the younger generation who uses the social medias a lot, like instagram, facebook etc. But the word became really common thanks to our prime minister....

She participated in Nelson Mandela's memorial service, she got seated next to US  President Obama and UK prime minister David Cameron, well I guess she thought that need to be perpetuated. Well can you blame her, wouldn't you take a selfie if you sat next to Obama and Cameron? But that just wasn't the place to do it, come on Helle, what were you thinking? I'm just glad I didn't vote for her, not that I think the guy I voted for would do much better, though I doubt he would take a selfie.
Michelle doesn't seem to approve the of their behavior, and can you blame her? The Washington Post doesn't seem to think it's all that bad, since the picture is number 6 on the list of the 18 best political pictures on 2013. Well enough about David, Barack and Helle, onto my selfies:)

I have today of, and started my day with a trip to the hairdressers, so here is a selfie of my hair before going, I need a haircut really bad. Sorry for the poor quality picture, there is no flash on my phone, and it was dark this morning, and my phone doesn't take the best pictures to begin with!
And here is an after selfie, I cut my hair short, I had been thinking of this for  while, and now I finally did it, maybe not the right season to do it, but then again the winter hasn't been too bad so far, so hopefully spring will be here soon.
So there you have it, 3 selfies. Have a great day:)

Happy New Year - Christmas re-cap

Well first Happy New Year, hope you all had a wonderful start to 2014. I can't wait to see what 2014 brings, but instead of a re-cap of 2013 I will show a few pictures from our Christmas Eve instead.

In Denmark we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, and we open presents on Christmas Eve. My parents arrived at our place on the 22nd, so my mum helped cook and clean, which was great. On Christmas Eve everyone was here, which means my parents, my brother, Franks parents, his sister and his brother.

Jonas got his first present in the morning, he got a work bench, so he would be entertained for some of the day. He would pull the door back and say I'm going to my tool shed.
Before we had dinner Santa came by, unfortunately we didn't take any pictures, but I know my mum did, so I have to get her to e-mail them to me. It was our Next door neighbour, and afterwards Frank returned the favor. I think it's a really nice tradition to have started, last year was the first time he paid a visit, and best of all he brought a little present for everyone, not just Jonas.

After dinner, it was time for presents. It has usually been me or Franks sister who has to give out the presents because we were the youngest. But this year we got to retired, and Jonas did a really good job. He found one, asked who it was for, gave it to the person and as soon as the unwrapped it he put the paper in the trash bag. The only presents he didn't asked who it was for was the ones wrapped in Cars paper, he knew these were for him:)
Here he is helping my dad unwrap a book, and of course taking the paper to the trash.
No one ever buys anything for the cat, well except for my mum, I think it's because when I was a kid and we had a dog, she was just as big a part of the family as the rest of us, so she got presents and even gave presents. So my mum had bought Gustav a present, which Jonas and my brother helped him unwrap.
By the time we reached the last presents Jonas was getting tired, so he sat down in his chair, saying I just have to relax a bit. But as soon as the present was unwrapped he found another one. After finishing opening presents Jonas was ready for bed, and he fell asleep right away. The 25th was then spent relaxing and playing with his new toys.

Hope you all had a wonderful Holiday.
